Een nieuw cijfer

Tijdens een college van Chris Vermaas kregen we de opdracht om een nieuw cijfer te ontwerpen. Daarvoor ben ik aan de slag gegaan met ligaturen. Na een korte studie heb ik nieuwe cijfers gemaakt voor de 10, 11 en 12.

The sound of graphic design
Usually graphic designers are almost the last creatives to work on music projects before they go in production; after the music has been rehearsed, played, recorded, mixed, remixed and mastered, the graphic designer adds a visual identity to the music.

This way of working is fine and logical, given the fact that the music is leading. However, we believe it is an extremely interesting idea to flip this concept 180°! A fine international selection of graphic designers is challenged to take the leading role in a music project: the designers create a record cover that is free of restrictions and other people's wishes and needs.

THEA has been hailed as one of the most inventive and influential figures in contemporary electronic music, with her work ranging from experimental electro to the finest minimal techno.

On the sleeve you get a first impression of THEA's freakin' fingers, a Pantone grid is turned into the equalizeroutput of 10-6 c.

With this 3/4 pounds of pure madness THEA shockes again, it appears that some vains of this music genre are still not discovered...

De band van Wicked Jazz Sounds brengt aan het einde van dit jaar een DVD uit. Ik ben via de VJacademy gevraagd om een van de nummers visueel te ondersteunen. Het nummer dat ik toegewezen heb gekregen is erg poetisch en cryptisch met een jazzy sound. Het is best een zeikerig nummer eigenlijk. Ik wil daarom geen gebruik maken van beelden van de band of de zangeres maar wil het erg grafisch houden. Onderstaand een eerste storyboard.
