Onsterfelijkheid is dodelijk

De afstudeerdatum komt snel dichterbij, nu begint het echt spannend te worden. Onderstaand alvast een eerste serie.

Het werk is gebaseerd op onsterfelijkheid, een hoger doel van vele zowel mythologische als hedendaagse figuren. Maar bij pogingen om onsterfelijkheid te bereiken vallen juist veel slachtoffers.

Graduation_process

Finally, i am getting my fingers wrapped around it.

Last week i finished all my assignments for Einszwei and due to my planning, the next two and a half months is 'work my ass off' for the graduation! By now i really start to enjoy it, let's hope that shows! I made some nice stuff already, aswell as crap, but hey, that's the way it goes...

Ik heb vorige week een aantal experimenten gedaan met (voor mij) nieuwe druktechnieken en materialen.

1. Drukken met verschillende kleuren tegelijk.

Twee lagen op een grijs t-shirt.

2. Drukken met een kleurverloop.

Twee lagen op een wit t-shirt.

3. Drukken op hout.

Grafisch Papier - Antoine et Manuel

Antoine et Manuel bij Papier Hier, de jaarlijkse dag van Grafisch Papier/Antalis. Het werk was veel van hetzelfde maar met een paar mooie uitschieters. Dat in combinatie met een flauw en inhoudsloos verhaal maakte de presentatie een grote tegenvaller, jammer!

Yearbook 2009/2010 AKI ArtEZ

Van 3 juli t/m 1 augustus is werk van alle afstudeerders van ArtEZ Academie voor beeldende kunst en vormgeving te zien in de culturele instellingen in de Enschedese wijk Roombeek. De jongste generatie kunstenaars presenteert zich onder de titel Inside Out via een kunstroutelangs deEnschedese cultuurmijl.

Deze eindexamenexpositie had voor mij een speciaal tintje, omdat ik in samenwerking met Moniek Paus voor dit jaar de afstudeercatalogus mocht ontwerpen. Bij de AKI is dit ieder jaar niet zomaar een catalogus met afstudeerwerk, maar een volledig jaarboek, waarin de lezer in beeld en woord een terugblik wordt gegund op het afgelopen jaar. Ik ben supertrots op het eindresultaat. Helaas ben ik nog niet in de gelegenheid geweest om het boek te fotograferen, maar dat komt zo snel mogelijk. Houd dus deze pagina in de gaten!

Visuals at fashion show KABK The Hague

Together with the leipe mannen from KERN, i did the visuals at the graduation fashion show at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (KABK) in The Hague. Two days with lots of fun, beers and conceptual fashion.

The setting was, as every year, really nice. The KABK managed to build a huge hall of 19 containers, in which they placed the catwalk and seatings. We build a cool installation of 3 beamers in the top container, above the catwalk. This way the audience could look up and see the names of the designers, as well as some fitting abstract black and white visuals.

Nacht van de grafiek

Maximaal 10 grafiek-fanaten werken 12 uur onafgebroken in het grafisch atelier van KunstLokaal. Het gebeurt allemaal in de nacht van zaterdag op zondag 6 en 7 maart van 8 tot 8 uur. Oude grafische druktechnieken zoals etsen, hout- of linosnede, zeefdruk, monoprint, steendruk of combinaties daarvan kunnen worden hedendaags gebruikt. Er nemen zowel liefhebbers als professionele ontwerpers en kunstenaars deel.

Het thema van de ‘Nacht van de Grafiek’ is tweeërlei:
1) Wat gebeurt er aan de grenzen van het uithoudingsvermogen? Kan iedereen zich blijven concentreren? Neemt de kwaliteit van het werk door vermoeidheid af of biedt het juist nieuwe mogelijkheden?
2) Wat is de meerwaarde van een marathon met tijdsdruk bij oude grafische technieken? Normaal gesproken werkt men er met tussenpozen aan. Nu moet het werk van ontwerp tot en met realisatie onafgebroken afgemaakt worden. De deadline is onverbiddelijk.

For the drawing exhibition on the AKI i made two series of three abstract drawings, using paint and pencil.

Oncovered - monsterbook

Do you remember my post of Oncovered?
This project is now really taking off. The best thing is; Ontwerpatelier and Grafisch Papier made a monsterbook of the paperline Trucard, with six design of Oncovered-sleeves in it. The criteria was that the design had to be based on a system. And my design is made upon a the Pantone-system, so i am in the book! I am really excited about this, especially because in a few weeks these monsterbooks are on every desk of every designer in the country! YOSH!

The monsterbook has to show how different prints work with the different kinds of paper. Because of that, Ontwerpatelier thought of a way to remix all the designs and to show a foil, a die cut and embossing press.

Papier Hier

A lot has happened since my last post.
I went to Papier Hier, a special day from paperspecialist Grafisch Papier. Every year they present their new lines of paper on this day. This year the theme was The Art of Food. There i saw a cool presentation from Marti Guixe, he is a very inspiring fooddesigner and foodartist.
